DeFi Development Grows Solana Treasury by 3,983 SOL and Raises CHAD Preferred Dividend to 14%

NN@nnnprocessoron GuardiaNNN·3h ago·5 min read

Nasdaq-listed DeFi Development Corp. has added nearly 4,000 SOL to its corporate treasury and announced a higher dividend on its CHAD preferred stock, timing both moves just ahead of Alpenglow, one of the most significant consensus upgrades in Solana’s history.

Key Takeaways

  • DeFi Development Corp. (NASDAQ: DFDV) bought 3,983 SOL over the past week.

  • Its Solana treasury now totals about 2,590,266 SOL.

  • The update came two days before Solana’s Alpenglow consensus upgrade was scheduled to go live.

  • Alpenglow targets finality of roughly 150 milliseconds, down from about 12.8 seconds.

  • The dividend on CHAD preferred stock rises to 14% from 13%, effective November 2, or $1.40 per share a year.

  • DFDV shares were trading at $3.77 at the time of the announcement.

DFDV Expands Its SOL Treasury to About 2.59 Million Tokens

DeFi Development Corp. (NASDAQ: DFDV) increased its Solana (SOL) holdings by 3,983 SOL over the past week, the company announced on Monday. The latest purchase brings its total treasury to approximately 2,590,266 SOL, reinforcing its position as one of the publicly traded companies most heavily focused on Solana.

The timing is notable. The disclosure arrived just two days before Alpenglow, a major overhaul of Solana’s consensus protocol, was scheduled to go live on the network.

What Is Solana’s Alpenglow Upgrade?

Alpenglow is a new consensus protocol for Solana developed by Anza, one of the network’s core engineering teams. It replaces Solana’s existing TowerBFT consensus and Proof of History mechanism with new components, including Votor, which handles voting and block finalization, and Rotor, which handles data propagation across the network.

From 12.8 Seconds to 150 Milliseconds

The headline goal is speed. Alpenglow targets transaction finality of around 150 milliseconds, compared with roughly 12.8 seconds previously. Finality is the point at which a blockchain transaction becomes irreversible and can no longer be rolled back, which is what matters for payments, trading and settlement.

Why Faster Finality Matters, According to DFDV

DeFi Development argues that the upgrade could make Solana transactions feel as fast as a card payment, while preserving the 24/7 settlement of a decentralized network. Unlike traditional payment rails, blockchains do not close on weekends or holidays, so near-instant finality combined with round-the-clock operation could be a significant advantage.

The company also believes faster finality will become increasingly important as tokenized equities and other real-world assets (RWAs) grow on Solana. When traditional financial assets move on-chain, users and institutions expect settlement speeds comparable to, or better than, existing market infrastructure.

CHAD Preferred Stock Dividend Rises to 14%

Alongside the treasury update, DeFi Development is increasing the annual dividend rate on its Variable Rate Series C Perpetual Preferred Stock, known as CHAD, from 13% to 14%. The change takes effect on November 2.

Based on CHAD’s $10 stated amount, the new rate equals $1.40 per share per year, up from $1.30, an increase of about 7.7% in the annual payout.

How CHAD Dividends Work

CHAD dividends are cumulative and payable each business day if and when the board declares them. Cumulative means that any dividends not paid accrue and remain owed to preferred shareholders, rather than being lost. As a perpetual preferred stock, CHAD has no fixed maturity date, so its appeal rests largely on the income it generates.

CEO Joseph Onorati on the Dividend Increase and SOL Outlook

CEO Joseph Onorati presented the dividend increase as both an income product and a tool for growing the company’s Solana treasury. He said he believes Solana is entering a significant new growth cycle and that the higher CHAD rate arrives ahead of what he thinks could be a major bull market for SOL.

The goal, according to Onorati, is twofold: to make the preferred stock more attractive to income-focused investors, and to expand the company’s capacity to accumulate SOL on behalf of common shareholders. In other words, capital raised through preferred stock can help finance additional SOL purchases, with the aim of increasing SOL exposure for common equity holders.

These comments reflect management’s own outlook. Crypto markets remain volatile, and a bull market for SOL is a forecast, not a certainty.

Inside DeFi Development’s Solana Treasury Strategy

DeFi Development describes itself as the first US public company with a treasury strategy built around accumulating and compounding SOL. The company, formerly known as Janover Inc., adopted its Solana-focused treasury model in 2025.

Staking and Validator Operations

Rather than simply holding SOL, the company stakes its tokens and operates its own validator infrastructure. This generates two revenue streams: staking rewards on its own SOL and fees earned from stake delegated to its validators by other token holders. Through staking, the treasury can grow in SOL terms over time, which is what the company means by compounding.

AI-Powered Real Estate Software

Beyond its crypto treasury, DeFi Development also runs an AI-powered platform that sells software subscriptions to commercial real estate professionals, giving it a business line that is separate from the performance of SOL.

DeFi Development at a Glance

Bottom Line

DeFi Development Corp. continues to build its Solana treasury steadily while using its CHAD preferred stock as a funding tool to support further accumulation. With Alpenglow aiming to cut Solana’s finality from seconds to milliseconds, the company is positioning itself to benefit from Solana’s growth as a network for payments, trading and tokenized real-world assets.

At the time of the announcement, DFDV shares were trading at $3.77.
